Personal training is never a bad idea. You never know when you are working out alone if your form is correct, and some encouragement and inspiration and new ideas for your workouts are things that we all need from time to time. I know I do, and I AM a trainer. Sometimes fitness and nutrition planning need a boost or sometimes it t feels overwhelming and we need somebody outside of our own minds to review our workouts and nutrition and goals. If you don't know where to start or you've hit a wall, reading books, blogs, and articles can help, but nothing replaces the benefit of working with a personal trainer who can view and assess your situation and apply his or her knowledge and experience to your situation. It might seem expensive, but think about how much you spend on a toilet brush, cleaning supplies, mops, dish soap, and laundry detergent, as well as hampers and brooms and a vacuum. If you'll spend that much on DIRT, then spend a little bit on your own health and meet with a personal trainer at least once. If it comes with your gym membership, use that. You might be able to work with Exercise Physiology students at a local college for a reduced price or for free. Do not skimp on your health -- or safety. If you are unknowingly doing something in an unsafe manner, you could cause an injury that might be permanent. Nobody wants that.
